2016 Star Weaving HIGH LIGHTS

March 16, 2017

What a year 2016 was!

From the announcement of the partnership between the One Million Stars project and the Queensland Government, Office of Commonwealth Games (OCG) in February to the growth of Star Weave Communities - over 100 Star Weave Communities by August. To the installation of thousands of stars across Australia and in communities such as Rarotonga, Cook Islands and Bloomington Indiana USA, we are reminded daily in our communities that the stars have endless possibilities and communities to reach.

I'm so glad we have a facebook page (and instagram and twitter) to share the many stories that come to us via email and print media. We love seeing who is weaving the stars and how it's making people feel about themselves and their communities. We have so many that we could post every few hours!

One of the highlights has been starting a new working partnership with Human Ventures.

Chantel (Project Manager) and Paddy are working to support the Star Weave Communities around the world, overseeing social media to keep people engaged and up to date and so much more. Working with Chantel, Paddy and Louise from OCG has been a gift. Their commitment to the project and their skills and expertise is incredible.

WE CAN DO THIS! One million stars will be achieved, I have no doubt - a feeling in my gut. Ending all violence together. Yes. I believe we can!

I thought I'd share a few stories and pics, there are many more on our facebook page, but here are some that are just star-sational : ) Enjoy!

Cook Island Star Weave Community reached over 20,000 stars and had a display at the Bergman Gallery in Nov 2016 - Feb 2017.

5,895 stars woven by this amazing woman, Ngao who is part of the Cook Island Star Weave Community

Beautiful star gift to Former NZ High Commissioner to Cook Islands Nick Hurley, presented by siStar and amazing artist, Ani O'neil. Love the story that they ran out of ribbon on the island and that they worked out to use craft paper cut into strips. Huge thanks to Merita Wi, Amelia Borofsky, Teina Mack, Vaine Nooana-Arioka, Inano Vaiitirau McMurchy, Punanga Tauturu Inc, New Zealand High Commission and Bergman Gallery. Meitaki Maata!
